Richard Hovel I am a visual artist working in wood, paper, and color fields.
My work is inspired by found objects, my world view, and my life experiences.
My past work has focused on imaginary structures fabricated out of paper and assembled pieces made out of found wood.
I typically show my work in Palm Springs and am very pleased that many of my pieces can be found in private collections around the world.
My most recent work, Manipulated Abstract, evoke the skies, the universe, nature, and our place in it. Intended to be simultaneously infinitesimal and expansive, my color fields are marked, cut, scored, folded, combined or contorted into their final, dimensional form. Each piece is my attempt to convey the multitude of arbitrary factors and events that shape each of us, every moment of every day.
